Daily driver that performs like the FD

$51k is a bargain, they're £50k with options over here.
Not entirely the same, but I test drove the M235i a couple weeks back and it left me cold. Engine was nice, very torquey from no revs and revved well.
Had expected it to feel a bit like a modern FD. Hate hate hate the active sound. Stick it in sport+ and the stereo starts making engine noise.
Maybe 40 minutes in the car wasn't enough. The auto box didn't help either being a sports auto rather than a double clutch auto like the M2. Pretty sure my 2002 Golf has better steering feel too.
It all felt very synthetic. Would like to try the M2 w/ stick. Same engine as the 235i but more power, real M Suspension and LSD.

Look at the E63/CLS 63's as well... A little tip on any of these 'go fast' cars that are a mint to repair, go buy one at CarMax and get one of their extended warranties. My buddy taught me that trick and it was the only reason I was brave enough to own an 'out of warranty' Rover.

The m235i is excellent medium choice vs an actual M. It fun comfortable and has a nice powerband. Put in a plug-in chip and enjoy 360hp all day long without warranty issues. (Unplug it before you take it in).
Personally I drive a e39 M5. Ive cycled through many DD's but this one is something else..definite keeper.

I did 14.1@98 with this last week with a bad launch
I recently got for a daily driver an Infiniti FX50 (QX70) SUV. 5.0 V8 AWD, installed AEM dryflow drop-in filters, secondary cat deleted and Borla catback, had it tuned with Osiris reflash and got 347whp 323wtq on an AWD Mustang dyno. Great handling and fun in the twisties!
Installed a Class III hitch receiver and will be getting a tandem axle car hauler to trailer my FD around
Gets about the same mpg's as the FD, 16 in the city 20-22 hwy

My Range Rover Sport SC ran a low 13@109 and I let it shift itself in regular mode.
My stock BMW 435xi M sport ran a 13.3@104 bone stock. I have slips and video
There are some fast cars, trucks and SUV's to be had right now.
My friends new X5M ran a 12.1 and an 11.9@115 with a Dinan tune only. ***** just crazy lol

I've been doing automotive journalism for a St Louis based magazine for awhile now, so I get to take home whatever I want and thrash on it. This weekend I'm bringing home a 2016 Porsche 911 GTS, then after a week trade it in for a 2017 so I can write a story comparing the major model change.
And with all the stuff I've been driving, and knowing my own personal history, this will come as a complete shock ... but go drive a 2016 Camaro SS. It's an engineering masterpiece, the only flaws are of design and forgivable. Get a manual transmission, the GM tuned ZF tranny just isn't as snappy as the same unit in a BMW 340i for instance. But other than that it grips like Velcro and goes like stink. They're finally predictable cornering over bumpy road, and very much neutrally balanced - able to kick the rear end out predictably at any moment. I attached one of the pics I took during my Camaro text.
GM honestly is killin it these days. The Caddy ATS-V is another marvel, power band is a bit hitchy, but the chassis is absolutely stellar and they're totally track ready off the showroom floor.
I really liked the BMW M235i also, much better ZF tranny tune than the Camaro, and chassis dynamic very much Mazda reminiscent. It's a car that just loves being thrown into corners, and has a great even powerband/delivery. Opening up the exhaust to give it a real note of it's own is really all it's missing.

Those are the faults of design. Engineering, and what it's like to drive, is pretty damn spectacular. The poise and balance of the chassis is undeniable, it's not a muscle car anymore, they're legit sports cars.
I got my first speeding ticket in the last decade driving it, 87 in a 35. But because 5-0 was interested in the car, and I was super polite, he only wrote me up for 50 in a 35. That would never happen in a FD, at least not in the Midwest

The new Camaro is a totally different platform, one that is much lighter the the prior generation. Actually, it's based on the ATS platform, which is a great platform that is best-in-class in combining low weight and high rigidity. I'd like to try the new Camaro.... the visibility scares me off.

I saw the new Camaro at the local GM dealership... those windows are still a joke. Apparently it's a nicer drive than the Mustang, though.

My Range Rover was $90k new. It's a 2011 and now has 48k miles. It's still under warranty till feb.
no accidents, new supercharger and water pump, tires, brakes and I will sell it to you for $34k. 510hp
If you want to buy my BMW it's a 2014 that was $59250 new. Currently has new tires, 42k highway miles. Has been flawless. Will sell it to you for $36k it's also still under warranty and free maintinence for 4/50k. Mint, clear bra, never modded 8AT. Alpine white.
Plenty of used cars out there in your wheel house with much better performance and have warranties. 👍

Both the mustang and camaro are no joke and both Ford and Chevy are killing it right now

No doubt about that. I need to go test drive one of those new Mustangs.
I havent driven a mustang in 20+ years.
There is a Ford dealer in Ohio selling new GT Mustangs for $39.9k with 727 HP brand new Turn key.
Lebanon Ford.
I can say that's a bargain and it makes my "Buy it now" finger real itchy.

The 2016 Camaro chassis is 'better' than the Mustang chassis. In direct comparison, the Mustang feels soft and flexy. The big surprises with the new Camaro is near inability to induce understeer, and how composed it stays cornering over bumpy surfaces.
