Japan Market Update
Market softened somewhat after the end of January, probably from oversupply, with more than 80% of cars coming up apparently not getting sufficient bids. Great deals for some in the 95-98 year range.
Prices seemed to firm a bit in the last week, but still with few sales. Specific desirable models (I.e. Bathhurst) prices have come back somewhat, but not to earlier highs.
A kitted Spirit R did not sell in its first go around.
However, a very late production "2003" Spirit R went for what must be a near a record high, about Y 3.2 million.
Someone from the "Roadkill" crowd will have great fun with this orange one.
It went for Y98,000 (Yen ninety eight thousand).
It depends on personal taste, but I might favour the orange one for my collectible barn. Fun to imagine the reaction it would have got on the streets in Japan.
Basically, there seems to be a great buying opportunity if you can accommodate acquiring cars in the 93-98 range. Speciality models like RZ, RS and Bathhurst are going for reasonable prices. Lets hope they all don't get parted out.
Below is the Spirit R that did not sell.

I've been seeing prices rise in the last six months. Now people are asking $6k-$9K for ones with blown engines or ones in need of a rebuild and around $14k-$15k for running ones. I've even seen some RHD ones listed for $25k-$30k (a little ridiculous).
Same thing happened when the R32 GTR became legal in the US. Prices went from $12k-$14k to $20k-$25k within a year for us in Canada.

You Know Eunos Cosmos
Most Eunos Cosmo are all almost 25 years old. Very nice looking car. Very limited production and rare outside of Japan. Yet they are going cheap.
This 1992 beauty went for Y98,000. (Yen ninety eight thousand).
Buy ten and put your kids through college.

that orange FD went for $880? Am I reading that correctly? How much would it cost to import that as a parts car and nothing more? Obviously there are a lot of variables in the condition of the car that cheap, but seems like a reseller of parts could make money there.

That's just crazy. $1000 for a 4 grade Eunos Cosmo. You could sell the housings form the engine and make most of your money back.
Edit: I know that it's a 13B. You're still going to get ~$300-$400 for a good used housing.

Top Auction Pricing in Japan - Update
Top Auction prices last few months in Japan. Bathurst are the ones without an "A" under the Year/Model entry. Those showing an A are Spirit R, Type A.
Still many FD coming up for auction. Specific models still seeing strong interest. Otherwise, bargains are there for the taking.
Rumours are some of these top end purchases are on the way to Canada.
Sales prices would have to be over C$30,000 in Canada to make such moves economic.

Cosmo in Canada
Eunos Cosmo in Canada are very rare. If brought in it is usually to take the engine for a swap.
Why not talk to the BPRO guys in Calgary. I think they charge $1000 commission to arrange a purchase in Japan. They might know how to then ship to the US.
My concern would be getting legal headlights for the LHD world.

I have owned 2 RHD FD's and currently have a LHD...
I won't be selling my LHD anytime soon, but RHD was a lot of fun to drive. Definitely an exotic feel.. definitely miss it. (including cursing the damn reversed wiper/signal arms)
