your front squeak is probably your hood loose, its a common problem.
anyway i hope to get these bushings intsalled by the end of the month. i have all those symptoms, clunk, brake clunk, stutter at start up. ill post if it helps these problems.

OneBadRx7: wOw, Two years of ClunK! I wonder, did you take it to a professional or anyone for that matter? Or was this a DIY diag.? It's amazing how uncultivated US Mazda dealers, including general repair shops are with the Mazda Rx7 and rotaries in general. I don't trust many with my "piston" cars and even fewer with the Seven!

I'm now in the process of rebuilding my rear suspension. What started out with 6 pillow bearings (2 of which are worn so badly that I can feel 1/8" of slop just moving it by hand) has turned into new inner bushings for the I arms. With the suspension lose I could feel the play in it using just my weight, so I can only imagine how much it moved under brake loading.
The screw idea doesn't really work well for these, although the Mazda manual still says to use the same type of tool. After playing around with it for a bit I decided to get even more creative and used a 20 ton hydraulic press to get them out. And after seeing the pressure needed and the hearing noise when they let go, I don't think there's any way of removing them using the screw method. I don't know if anyone else is interested in changing them, but if there's interest I can replace a few sets of them at once for some $ for people.
I'll work on getting some pictures posted of the install/removal process.

I am in need of doing that same replacment to my FD. I keep puting it off and the squiking seems like it just gets worse over time. Sounds like you really can tell a big diff. in replacing the bushings.

Muchas gracias hombre
My '93 has only 25,140 original miles on it and IT clunks. WTF? Didn't Mazda think about quality at all in '93?
I copied the entire bushing job from the Max Cooper site. I'll buy the bushings from Malloy, with whom I've dealt with back in PA. Then I'll have my 'Vegas mechanic install them (W/ Max's guide for reference).
With my 265/40/17 rear Khumos I'll need better bushings to handle the extra lateral grip.

Super Snuggles
Anyone interested in knowing what causes the clunking noise should take a look at the picture below. The (white) Nylon insert in the pillow bushings wears out over time (note the scoring on the bearing surface of this bushing that would likely have accelerated wear), allowing the center shaft to move forward and backward. The clunking is caused by the spherical bearing hitting the outer metal casing of the bushing once the Nylon allows enough range of movement.
