You can sue a flat bed, thats what i used when i towed my car it cost a coupel extra dollars, but at least I know nothin was rubbing on teh ground.

front on the ground--out of gear of course.
Make sure to allow for the suspension--springs and all.
We towed mine with a 4X4 and it wanted to drag the rear.
We blocked the springs(rear) w/a 2X4 sothe would not travel(up-down) it worked just fine.

I must be the only one that towed his FC with the rears on the ground. And I did that for 1200 miles.

1200miles! Dear god. Was the drive shaft off? That's usually not recommended unless the driveshaft is down.

Whenever I try to back my TII up trailers or ramps, the stupid exhaust tips keep getting in the way (either the ramps or the ground) and gets scratched. I have the RB exhausts with stock springs and shocks. Anybody else have this problem? Maybe I should change out the suspension? That's definitely one reason why I don't want my 7 any lower. Oh yeah, and I had the fronts on the ground.

Drive shaft was in...This isnt generally detrimental to the manual (although I am sure its not good for it either). I would tow them now with the propeller shaft removed.

On a good note, the 1200 miles with the shaft in did nothing to the tranny that I could see.

Hmmm! That's good to know. I have never towed any other way, so ofcourse you would know better than myself. I was lucky and the U-Haul upgraded my trailer to a full flat bed. (They actually had to many)

I do this weekly with a towdolly and 7's. Sometimes daily. Towed a car today actually. You *ALWAYS* want the front wheels on the doly (rears on ground) when possible. The only times this is not desireable is a) a rearwheel drive car with an automatic, that you cant drop the driveshaft on, or b) a car with rearend/rear wheel damage that will not easily roll.

Why not the front wheels? Well, no matter how straight you think the column locks, it never does so perfectly straight (as if driving in a straight line) and thus your load will sway back and forth on the road more and more excessively with higher speed. This limits your speed to 50-55mph, if you're safe. Also, if you have the fronts down, and theyre at a slight angle (as they will be) when you hit the brakes, the car will want to pull you to that side, definitely not fun.

Towing cars, even for extended periods, unless theyre an automatic, is fine. I have towed more cars than I can count hours on end (hundreds of miles) with absolutely no damage to anything. Towing one with the rears on the ground is much safer, steadier, easier to control, and allows you a higher speed limit (I regularly reach 80mph on the Istate).

You can listen to whoever you want, its your car and your project, but I probably have more towing experience than anyone on this board with a towdolly, so take that how you will. I will only tow a vehicle backwards as a **LAST** resort.

Dude..he didnt write all that for nothing. I think the guy knows what he is talking about. He's done it alot of times so i dont think towing a rearwheel/manual car with the rear on the ground is all that bad. Atleast he is nice enough to tell us that it is safer. He does make sense though. Something i didnt know before but probably will start it once i have to tow my car (again)..LOL...

I concur. I've towed FDs and FC as far as 1000 miles, rears on the ground, fronts on the dolly.

With the fronts on the ground the car will "****" and track crooked down the road. Another thing that isn't good is that the front wheels have a little play, this will allow the car to hunt back and forth giving smaller trucks a hard time going straight as the towed car is always giving a little steering input.

thank god i went with gut and put the fronts on the dolly i didnt trust the fronts cuz i know they wont lock stright *
