Rebel 21 Circuit Harness

Hey, I have a 88 shell that I need to wire up as a street car. Was looking into the rebel harness and wanted to see if anyone here used this to rewire their car. Or have a suggestion on another kit
Having an FD motor built up NA.

why would anyone build up a FD engine n/a?

Tough crowd... It's not going to be an "FD" motor.... Should have just said NA, I figured the first response would be....what motor setup?

Hopefully I responded in time before the meme's were created!

I can't speak to Rebel wiring (the harness does seem like a good value), but the make-or-break to the installation is making sure it's done right.

Make sure all the grounding points you use on the car's body are solid and corrosion free.
Use anti-seize on bolts and dielectric grease on the connectors to keep moisture and corrosion out.
Use good quality connectors and terminals (and the proper crimp tools to terminate them).
Use glue-wall-filled heatshrink tube to insulate connectors and splices
Minimize splices by laying more wire than you need, cleaning up runs, then cutting to length.

Regardless of what you run, go for it.

In addition, if it's a full re-wire and you're getting rid of older factory connectors, you can't go wrong with Weather Pack connectors. DIYAutotune.com has assortment kits along with the proper crimp tool. I've used it to add accessories.

If you're looking to add features like power windows, I suggest a power window controller from a company like Directed Electronics. Take the opportunity to remove loads from going through switchgear and instead through relays, like with the sunroof and power window motors.

Given that the motor's load goes through the sunroof switches, it's a good idea. A plug-and-play kit would be nice. I'm actually using an Clifford Intelliguard 750 linked to a Clifford power window module to control the sunroof motor remotely and have the switches just send switching to the module. It works pretty well.

I completely forgot about this. The car's CPU (Central Processing Unit) contains the car's seat belt timer, horn relay and turn signal flasher. I noticed that the kit you're looking at includes flashers. You should know that the turn signal and hazard switch wiring is a bit odd. Look at the wiring diagram for the switches in the electrical section of your FSM. I was working on a plug-in solution that uses generic flasher units and I had to use a 12V relay and diodes to use the hazard switch. It should be pretty self-explanatory when you see this.

You're welcome. Also, you can use an Audi/VW chime relay to handle the key-in reminder chime and seatbelt light timer.

Another important thing. When retaining switchgear like the headlight and wiper switches, take care in separating the wiring for those switches from the harnesses. You can run those independently if you wanted to. Keep those connector shells and pins. You can splice the harness into them and then plug straight into the switches.
