I'm very interested in doing this as the power steering and the FMIC piping make that area very crowded. I have one problem though, I am an autocross fanatic! I hate drag racing. I also run Kumo slicks when I autocross. I'm afraid I might have to add 50 lbs to my bench press just to be able to autocross. I tried just removing the belt and driving around the block to see how that felt. It was pretty hard. Is it easier once I drain it? I'm not a huge guy, but I'm not weak either (275 lbs flat bench). I just don't want to go through all of the trouble and then decide I don't like it. I also read somewhere else on this forum that doing that can cause some boot to fail and need and need repalcement. God knows the last thing I need is something else broken on my car. Any thoughts?

What I did was put some rtv in the hollow area of it and let it dry then I just screwed it in place. I love that silicone stuff.

What about this:

Connect the feed/return lines (the two big fat lines) together so that there's no pressure buildup between the two, and leave the fluid in there to lubricate things.

As for the coolant line, I don't know.. there's only ONE coolant line? That makes no sense.

I was thinking about removing the powering steering but I have one question before I do so, will this affect or make drifting a lot harder?

Well steering effort is increased so I would say maybe. But as long as you are doing like 25mph or more it is not hard at all to move the wheel.

yall need to stop worrying about increased effort. the only time it is hard to turn is when u are going under 10 mph. over that it feels much nicer than the power steering did.

at least...mine does...

oh yeah... thats true about stuff failing if you drain it... just let most of the fluid out and leave enough in there to lubricate everything...

Yes, i am another one that did the mod.

I must say, it's great, the engine bay room looks great, and that whole pump/assembly is atleast 100 lbs..

Turning effort is not different at all, considering my power steering was not working properly in the first place

I couldnt figure out how to stop the beep... beep...Beep when i removed the pump

(did it at a friends house with no internet access to this site)! so i drove an hour home with the beeping.. (just turned radio up ALOT) and asked how to stop the beep when i got on here.

God i love this forum. LONG LIVE ROTARY ENGINES

AND **** POWER STEERING>>> Sorry about the lingo

It IS harder to turn even at high speeds if you only disconnect the belt and leave the PS on there.. I don't know about draining it like they say though.. if it's still as hard (my adjuster pulley broke so the belt is off, and it's HARD to turn more than 1/4 turn without the line and with the pump still there at ANY speed, still moving lotsa fluid I guess).

I don't know about just disconnecting it and draining most fluid because it could seize up (I know people say to do it, but still it's not something I want to screw with).

i went to a couple hardware stores and they told me there is no bolt that size... that sounds kinda hard to believe to me, but..... i just cut mine off an inch long and hose clamped a bolt in there... oh yeah i not sure about the rtv thing because it is possible to buil up pressure and u might blow that **** outta there. when i first did it i too much fluid in it and when i turned it blew that bolt outta there... sounded like a ****** shotgun...

I did the entire mod 2 days ago, Including Oil Cooler line.

Shame on you guys for not specifying the length of the Pressure/Return Lines Bolts. No specified length Is needed really but make sure to get below 30mm. I got the wrong length.

I used m12, with a Pitch Thread of 1.25 and a length of 10mm.

I'll get a hold of my guy to find out about about the Cooler Line Bolt dimensions...

did my power steering and A/C removal about a week ago, just for a temp solution i taped up the two feed and return lines and stuckem back in there, just till i find the right bolts... and for the cooler... i have no idea how to get that thing outta there... the bolt that holds it against the rad. core support is stripped and i cant get it out. looks like its time for the cutters!

The metal hose, Itself, can be broken off through repeated bending. Try that and than slip It pass the clip. Worked for me.

I removed my power steering as well. I love it. Its only majorly noticable at a complete stop. I found that one of the return lines, the one to the cooler if I remember right is in multiple pieces. I was able to disconnect it in the middle and connect it to the other line to make a loop. I took the center one and cut the line off the outer loop around the banjo bolt and welded that shut. Bolted it back down with its banjo bolt. doesnt leak at all. I filled the outer lines with fluid and screwed em into the box. My memorys kinda fuzzy on this but once your doing it and you have it apart you will see what I'm talking about. You can make a loop with the hoses on the car. I also removed EVERY aspect of the a/c from under the hood too. tons of room under there now.

I have the needed bolts to do the complete Power Steering removal.

You will need:

-2 M12 Bolts with a Pitch Thread of 1.25 (Pressure/Return)

-1 M16 Bolt with a Pitch Thread of 1.5 (Cooler)

Make sure the bolts are no longer than 15mm.

As mentioned before, doing the mod will definetly put a smile on your face after seeing how much your Engine Bay opens up. Also, for me, I am really happy with the mod. I can't even remember how It Is to drive with Power Steering and It's only been 3 days.

With the bolt dimensions displayed, I really think this thread should be archived.

Yeah I find myself already used to the extra bit of effort.
