Pacific Glass Sunroof - Replacement Mounting Hardware and Weatherstrip

For those with the rare Pacific Glass sunroof panel for the factory sunroof. If you are looking for a new weatherstrip or replacement mounting hardware for your panel, I have some information for you.

Thanks to a business called "The Sunroof Doctor" http://www.sunroofdoctor.com/ I was given a lead on a new outer weatherstrip via a phone call.

The glass sunroof weatherstrip from a 1994-1997 Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo, part #8-94256-386-0 is a direct fit and costs approximately $77 shipped. However there are a few caveats.

First and foremost, if you're looking through Honda's dealership, you're going to have problems finding it. As of June 2008, the part is on backorder with no ETA, and only two dealerships in the US had the part in stock; now one (Rule Honda doesn't have it, even though it's listed). Fortunately, one seal is sufficient length to fit the panel.

Second, while the weatherstrip fits, and has the correct felt lining, it is identical in appearance to the original (see pictures).

The good news is that there's no adhesive required, and the weatherstrip will hold its shape around the panel.

In regard to mounting hardware, you can use stainless steel Hex-head bolts and lock nuts with o-ring seals. You can visit the hardware store and get the right sizes. Now as for length, you can have a local auto parts store cut it to correct length. I used stainless lock nuts; be sure to use anti-size compound, otherwise, the nut will freeze, requiring you to drill the bolt out and risk damaging the glass panel.

For those missing plastic mounting collars (which insert into the panel's holes and provides a barrier between the bolt and the glass) you can find new ones at your local hardware store.

No, it was a production piece during the 80s-90s until the company went out of business.

Good info...

I just redid mines, and the holes were a hair over 10mm.
I just used 10mm metric stainless steel fasteners - I think the SAE equivalent is 3/8"?
Good idea with the o-ring - I just used a lot of RTV to seal everything up and keep the glass insulated from the metal fasteners.

The o-rings came from a set (I forget the material, but they were part of an assortment that I used to rebuild the OMP pump). I didn't want to use sealant because I wanted to be able to disassemble the sunroof assembly in the future if I needed to clean or maintain it.

Just an update to this thread.

The glass sunroof weatherstrip for a 1994-1997 Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo, part #8-94256-386-0 is still available. I ordered mine last week and it arrived today. I searched out and ordered the; black 6/6 nylon flanged inserts, stainless steel tamper resistant machine screws, nylon insert locking nuts and Viton O-rings from McMaster-Carr to mount my "new to me" Pacific glass sun roof in my FC.

Experience with Honda/Isuzu Weatherstripping for Pacific Glass Sunroof

Resurrecting this thread to provide some additional information on the replacement Honda/Isuzu weatherstripping compared to the stock weatherstripping on the Pacific glass sunroof. The cost of the Honda/Isuzu seal has also increased to around $100 less tax and shipping, and you can still find it on some honda dealer part websites.

The Honda/Isuzu sunroof seal does mount tighter around the pacific glass sunroof without any silicone adhesive that the oem seal required, however it is slightly shorter in height so it doesn't make the same type of seal to the body all around the roof. The gap to the body is more pronounced in the rear corners, so you may want to add some additional generic weatherstipping (autozone) to these corners and places you can see gaps by placing the aftermarket weather stripping so it mounts under the sunroof seal on the body, to prevent water from running through.

I decided to go back to the original seal since it offered a better seal up front and not such a large gap in the rear corners although I still have used some aftermarket weatherstripping in the corners which prevents a lot of water from entering. While there are rain channels in the sunroof channels that drain water out through hidden rain channels to the back of the car, a heavy downpour could cause problems and maybe other water issues-mildew smell, etc. I just wanted a tight fit as close to the stock steel sunroof fit.

Side note about the glass sunroof-I was having issues with the right rear corner of the glass sunroof not closing all the way down, the stock steel sunroof never had issues. I would have to push the glass sunroof up with my hand from the inside to get it to close while pushing the close button. The issue was that the rear right sunroof linkage would hit the underside of the sunroof and prevent it from closing down all the way, I added some rubber squares (Orchard Supply Hardware has different thickness rubber cut to order) to certain points on the underside of the glass sunroof to allow it to mount a little higher on the rails in order to clear the linkage during closing. This could just my problem due to some thin/worn out foam sunroof padding that sits on the railing mounts, haven't heard anyone else complain but wanted to offer a solution since it took a while to figure out what was holding it up. I will post some pictures of this shortly. It closes fine now and sets down by itself with the close button without any pushing around from the underside.
