Just wondering what everyone thought about drilled and slotted brake rotors. Would a good set of pads and OEM rotors be just as good or better than an OEM size drilled and slotted brake rotor?

drilled and slotted rotors don't really do anything. If anything they'll make your rotor not last as long.

I have hawk HPS brake pads, SS brake lines, and OEM rotors on my car and it stops great.

If you need new rotors I'd recommend getting some brembo blanks from tirerack.com, they're usually pretty cheap.

I bought some cheap *** cross drilled rotors of ebay and some hawk HPS pads. Stops good, I need new tires and that will help most. Brakes feel solid on the car. I would suggest investing in some good quality rotors as well though. I am not satisfied with my crappy auto parts store brand. Something like brembo is good, if you worry about heavy breaking get them slotted for the extra cooling. Drilled will just eventually crack on you, that's all I am waiting for to replace mine with slotted. Yes with slotted or drilled or both you will go through pads quicker, but seriously what is one $80 set of pads a year in maintenance cost. Oh yeah stainless steel brake lines is a plus, just due to the fact that they don't rust an corrode and they look pretty.

I got the drilled and slotted rotars from mazdatrix also paired with mazdatrix ss brake lines..stops pretty good

(alot better than my old camry which weighed about the same as my fc)

it wasn't my choice just came with the car

Holy thread resurrection batman! Just spent 30min digging around the racing tech section to see what rotors people run on on the track then noticed this thread is almost 12 years old. Since I wasted all that time I'm gonna answer. There's a couple different ways to look at it. Since( someone correct me if I'm wrong) some people are running stock blanks with good results. Seems to depend on the HP/ weight of the cars, tire size, ducting, pad compound, fluid etc. So on a street FC I think drilled/slotted are just for looks. You can buy slotted/drilled for more money or since cheap blanks can be bought off Rockauto for less than it costs to turn rotors these days buy them and get new rotors with your pads every time. I would stick to slotted only due to cracking around the holes if one goes that route.

As to the Spirit R. No clue. If this is the Spirit R FD rotors they are larger so they won't just bolt on without relocating the calipers. Just in case you didn't already know that, but I'm assuming that's why you would want them. For the larger diameter.
