Oil pressure gauge bottomed out?

OK, so the oil pressure gauge in my dashboard all of a sudden bottomed out; not to zero, the needle is hanging all the way down at the bottom.

When I noticed it, I stopped and checked that I had oil of course (I knew I did... jsut paranoid), and the engine hadn't exploded in 30 seconds of so it too me to get off the freeway, so I know I still actually have oil pressure in there, and its either the gauge or the sensor.

Does the oil pressure gauge get its reading from the sesnor thats on the drivers side of the engine block? In the rear iron I think?

If I take that sensor connector and connect to to ground somewhere, should my oil pressure gauge rear maximum or minimum?

And other than doing that, does anyone happen to know a good way to test the gauge/sensor?

Thanks,
Andrew Pullin

hey ive made about 5 threads on this and never got the prob fixed. The connector is on the rear iron on the driverside, next to the oil filter mount.

Its just 1 connector, the original wire that plugs in there is a spade connector with a plastic surround thingie.

I've had mine plugged in forever and its never worked. But I have an f'd up harness that has frayed wires that i just noticed this week. I'm guessing htats where my problem is.

mine is still busted, and the gauge needle as dropped all the way down. I think I also tried shorting the wire into the sensor to ground, which I think should have pegged the gauge at full, but it didnt make it move at all.

So it must be a bad connection in my wiring harness or a bad gauge... both of which are going to be impossible to fix. damnit.

take a multimeter and check along the path of the connection if you are getting a signal...like first check at the sensor then work your way back...

Beat on the sender for a bit with a screwdriver while someone watches the gauge with the car running- if it twitches, it's the sender. If not, start shooting the wiring...
