FC Turbo Manifold

hey guys, what kind of flange does the stock turbo manifold on a 89 FC have? I recently bough a GT45 with a T4 turbo flange on it, will it fit? If not what kind of turbo manifold do i need to get, and where is the best place to get one from?

No it will not fit. The only turbo that fits the stock manifold is the STOCK TURBO.

Search.

This has been covered many, many times. The stock S4 and S5 turbos use proprietary flanges known only to Mazda. The S5 flange looks like it is a standard T4 flange, but it is not.

Also, a GT45 is HUGE. Even if you change the flange on the manifold, it won't fit. You need to make a manifold to move the turbo up above the frame rail, and forward where the airpump would normally sit.

Here's an image of a GT45 on a 2nd gen:

I just looked at the SpeedMachine site (where I got that picture) and it looks like this manifold might fit:

I checked the RX-7 Store website and could not find anything that looks like it will fit.

Turblown can probably make you one.

Keep in mind that the GT45 will make more then 400HP at less then 15 PSI of boost. It's an 800HP+ capable turbo and you're going to need a healthy port job (ie. bridge) to spool it at any reasonable RPM.

Here's a quote from ATP turbo's page on the GT45:

"Turbo, Ball Bearing Garrett GT4508R (aka GT45R) . Capable of close to 1200HP! Compressor wheel diameter is 108mm exd. / 80.8mm ind. (56trim) Compressor housing is .69 A/R has a 6" inlet and 3.5" outlet slip on connection. Turbine housing uses a T4 divided inlet and 5" V-band outlet.

Turbine
-Wheel: 87.0mm w/ 85 trim
-Housing: 1.01, 1.15, 1.28, 1.44 A/R

Compressor
-Wheel: 108.0mm exd./80.8mm ind w/ 56 trim
-Housing: .69 A/R "

It's a monster. Unless you are planning on running PP?

I wanna' see that 1.44 hotside.

It's definately large My FC made 410hp @ 14lbs. Boost started at about 4000rpm.

About our manifolds, they won't fit that turbo as they are sold, but one can be made. We tried fitting a GT42R that we have at the shop on our long runner manifold, and it didn't fit, mostly because of the angle of the flange. But a GT45 would need to come more forward than the GT35R and smaller manifolds. The GT40R is the largest turbo that fits our off the shelf manifolds. Hope that help you some.
