Does anybody know how to perform starter 'click click' mod??
As the above statement says. Does anybody know how to perform the starter 'click click' mod fix?
Aparently the use of one aftermarket relay is all you need?
If not a link to the correct URL will work too!
I desperatly need this!!!!! I will be forever grateful!!

I could swear I saw Icemark state that this was caused by the switch in the ignition key starting to go bad, and that the best way to fix it was to replace the ignition, which is a pain in the *** and nobody wants to do it.
As a workaround you can use a relay and run a wire from the battery through the relay to the starter, and use the ignition key's start wire to activate the relay (since a relay needs a lot less juice than the starter solenoid). I haven't tried this however.

Here is the thing...
Battery is new, terminals new, alt is rebuilt, starter is rebuilt w/ solenoid (got is checked out yesterday on top of it being already rebuilt), redid all the grounds and it seems to be acting up when it get warm out.
Everything points to ignition switch.. however it is a 300$ part. A good friend of mine had the same issue.. it was getting really bad, so he got a new ignition switch.. aparently that didnt help too much.
Is there any way of getting an ignition switch rebuilt????

If you search for a thread started by me around 6 months to a year ago (forgot title, but it deals with a starter issue) Hailers posted a method of determining where the problem is. If you haven't found it by the time I check back after working on my car, I'll try to find it.

Here is the thread...

It helped. So your problem turned out to be the + battery cable!??!
How did you 'pull it apart' and check it?
Im going to try HAILERS 8 step test... I know my starter isnt the problem becuase i took it into the shop and the guy told me it was fine, i got it rebuilt 2 months ago anyways.
It will be interesting to see what the actual problem is...
Thanks so much for your help Sideways7!!!!!!!

If you look at the terminal connector, there is a thick wire which goes inside a metal block which actually connects to the post. Basically, the wire is sandwiched between the block and a plate which is held on by 2 bolts. I just unscrewed the bolts and took the top plate off, and the wire was green and white in there, really nasty. Just check EVERY connection from the battery to the starter to see if anything doesn't look right. From my experience, the ignition switch doesn't just go dead suddenly, it slowly gets worse. For example, on my DD about every 4 times I try to start it it will do the click thing a few times then start. On my 7, it will do it almost every time I try to start it. I just keep trying until it finally catches.
As for the switches, I am almost certain there is a way of rebuilding them, I just haven't really looked hard enough to find it yet.
Also, thank Hailers for his amazing knowledge of the electrical systems on these cars. He's a real lifesaver.

Mazda quoted me 250 for the ignition lock switch and 150 for the ignition switch.
So i am concidering my options.
However, since my car is JDM my ignition switch has 4 wires. 2 are a 2 wire pigtail, one is a one wire pigtail and the other is a TWO wire pigtail. The US spec has 2 pigtails that have 2 wires, one with one wire, and the other has FOUR wires...
So i think that even if i buy an ignition switch i wont be able to use it...
There is a local shop that aparently rebuilts ignition switches.. Im going to check them out after the long weekend.
Cheers,
