Convertible Roll bar idea

Well I was thinking there had to be some way to get a clean looking roll bar on our car ... and while i was looking at my car it struck me !!!

I thought of an idea to mount the rollbar where the top of the seatbelt covers are. I am unsure if this would mean you would have to relocate the seatbelt mounts underneath, or if there would be enough room for it to mount with out moving them.

If this did in fact require moving .. it would be an inch at most. Which really will not effect the seat belts performance/use.

BTW from the looks of it and taking a couple quick measurements .. the targa would not have to be removed to put the top up or down

I did a quick pshop ... i know it looks like poop and its an ugly vert but it was just so you guys can understand what im saying in words .....

Opinions?

If you're going to bother, you might as well make sure it conforms to SCCA standards, (2" helmet clearance?), and actually works.

If you're serious, get the Kirk Racing Bar. It bolts to the floor and the seatbelt shoulder harness bolts, and does not interfere with the top. I think you'll lose a little seat retraction angle though.

They just made me one, takes about 4-6 weeks. I'm thinking about chroming mine before bolting it in. (Actually, I'd like to black-chome it to match the charcoal interior, but apparently this involves a different chroming-line and is turning out to be hard to find locally...)

Kirk street rollbar 245.00. Shipping 95.00

Here's another guy's install, (I don't have the center cross-brace):

The kirk bar doesnt have a "targa hastle" but if you want it for looks anyway im pretty sure the kirk isnt SCCA approved but i could be wrong.

Build this of STFU. What you are proposing is a STYLE BAR not a roll bar.

THIS is a ROLL BAR:

That's considered a "cage" in SCCA Production. Open top Prod cars can have a low front hoop the height of the cowl.

Isn't there some 2" above the helmet code in SCCA for verts?

(That pic of the race vert makes me smile...)
