Told the guys on the other board that they needed to get clokker to do a Subie Swap cupholder thread to end all threads.

Yup.

Humorously (at least to me), the only reason I did it was because I was relocating the warning cluster down there and adding a cupholder made the project more difficult, thus more interesting.
That picture shows the only time the cupholder has ever been used.

lol hey it works! I had a store bought one that fit in that same spot screwed into the carpet for the longest time. Took it out to clean it since it wouldn't expand or contract anymore from the sticky pepsi residue and never put it back in.

I have one I bought from autozone, screwed down in that same spot. Probably the same expanding and contracting one RotorBalls had.

Do you have a stereo at all in the car?
And what model Subaru did that come from?

I moved the warning cluster to put a trio of gauges where it used to be.

No, no stereo ATM and even if I wanted one I don't think I'd mount it in the stock location where it's so visible (and tempting).

Sorry, can't remember specifically.

I've considered using a cupholder from either an RD1 Tiburon or an Audi.

I owned a '99 Tiburon, and it had a dual pop-out cupholder. My Audi uses singles, so it could be convenient for space considerations. I was thinking about making a custom "housing" inside the top of the glovebox for this.

I think it'd work quite well.

The slide out cupholders from 90's Tauruses work well and are easily mounted under a single DIN radio. If you mount them right the do not interfere with shifting. Theres a write up about it. I have it in my car, but it's not installed at the moment so I can't take a pic.

wish i could be bothered to take a picture, i bought one from wal-mart, made by "Bell"(the old motorcycle helmet company that now sold it's name to chinese knockoffs to put their name on anything automotive/motorcycle related, but i digress because it's just a cupholder...). cost about 10 bucks and is leather/steel and screwed to the passenger side of my shifter surround. works well for most cups and is more durable than those plastic crappy ones that mount to the dash that only hold 12oz cans of soda. the passenger foot area is pretty huge and it doesn't interfere with any passengers i have had in the car, only looks slightly out of place but not that horribly.

^ you mean kind of like this?

its one of those el cheapo ones that screws into the side, but it works. it holds the taco bell large cups pretty well. even 2, but you gotta watch the cornering. hah but like karack said it doesnt stick out too much and only a few of my bigger friends have ever kinda complained about it.

i placed mine in front of the seat, basically near the cig lighter but mounted the same way to the shift surround.

eh screw it, i'll get a pic, i'm just ashamed of my floor mats...

don't mind the car, i use it for work. or my broken 1/2 shift return spring, or my broken stereo surround, or my cheapo dvd player which is going to get replaced. thanks, i just realized how neglected my car has been lately!

btw, i wouldn't be scared to attempt setting a 2 liter onto that cupholder either, it is solid regardless of the crappy 20 year old plastic shift surround. it is pretty stout on the sides.

This came from canadian tire and is screwed into the plastic of the glove box. tucks into cavity when door closed . Works fine for cans and coffee . Have two of them but only installed one for now . Both will fit. I have used this for about 5 years with no problems
