bad starter?

Okay well i started my t2 a little while ago and it was fine. Just tried to crank it about a hour ago and......nothing. I have a new battery and every accesory is working. But as soon as i turn the key, i get no juice to the starter. Checked all relays and fuses and all is good.

Might be a bad starter? Has anyone had this problem? help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

no it does not crank just clicked for a few tries and now it just does nothing. I am leaning twrds a bad starter or a bad connection somewhere. My battery is only a month old, and i took the battery out of my explorer and it did the same thing. Thanks for the response.

i think it is the soleniod. gonna try a different one. all my dash lights come on and when i turn the key i dont even get a ''clicking'' sound. So i am gonna check all the grounding points first.

Battery cables not on good or bad connection at the posts. Or the feed wire is not on good at the solenoid on the starter. Or the battery ground wire is not connected to the engine good. It should be connected to the outboard starter long bolt.

IF the cables are on good and the solenoid just goes click, you might buy another starter solenoid and try it.

Or you could get under the car with it out of gear and jumper a wire b/t the starters very small blade and the large wire on the solenoid. The starter should crank over. If it does, consider something in the ignition switch/interlock switch connection might be bad.

if it is just clicking it is the solenoid, if its doing nothing or clicking few times and then not even clicking at all i would say its either the whole starter or its just the solenoid with some burned wires or bad mating surfaces, try cleaning the starter terminals with a wire brush and see if that helps any, you also might want to think about getting a heat sheild for the new starter if you require one

I've had bad starters that would only go click. Once I proved to myself it was not a cable problem, I took a hammer and smacked the starter on its side a couple of times. The car started. I kept a hammer in the car for these occasions for a while.

Finally I took the starter apart and the brushes were kaput. So, you might try the hammer smacking. Then jumper b/t the small blade and the large wire on the solenoid. I used a small screw driver shank.

The smalll wire does NOT have to be on the starter to do this. If the starter turns over now, then put the small wire back on and go for a drive..............but the starter is probably kaput. This is a temp fix. Hammer must be kept in the car at all times.

I just replaced the starter in my car, when I turned the key I got more than a click, a high pitched whirring. This was the second time it had done this, the first time I compression started it and it started after that until the last time. I bought a used starter in California and it was for an automatic, I live in Washington. I still have it. I bought another used starter and it didn't work, I had it checked and it was defective. So, I had to take it out and return it where they tested it and it worked. They gave me a different one anyway, that one worked. I learned that testing one by putting it on a battery isn't necessarily effective.
