Steering Wheel

Hey, i was wondering if any of you guys have picked a cheap ebay steering wheel and how good or bad some of them are?

I just don't think spending $250 + adapter hub for an aftermarket steering wheel is justified.

there are a tremendous amount of reviews and writeups on what your looking for. Search function is your friend dude.

Iv used ebay special knock off steering wheel, hub, and quick release and its been just fine for me for low strain usage and power steering. (AKA show and tell)

If you are thinking of tracking, autoX, or some spirited driving, especially with no power steering you should use better quality hub. (and better quality quick release if you decide you want that function). Some ebay units over time have a tendency they loose their luster and strength over time and can be subjected to cracking or warping.

^Wow... That'd scare the **** out of me.

Buy a nice wheel, not only for quality, but it'll make you happy every time you drive your car.

Well I absolutely think it is (spend 250+). There are a few areas I would never ever go cheap on; brakes and steering. If you lose either, you die.

I've posted my experience before, but that was years ago. So around 2003 when I had my first NA, my wife bought me a wheel/hub/ballbearing hub combo for christmas. I was thrilled. When I installed it, I was even more thrilled when I started to lose steering control. The longer I drove the more vague and wrong it felt. I didn't realize it, but the ebay hub was made out of really inferior metal. I quickly got back to my garage and took it apart. The spline on the hub was stripping. Eventually, I would have lost all steering control. Even more thrilling.

I ripped that garbage out of my car, cleaned out all the metal shavings and put my stock wheel back in.

There may be varying qualities of hub adapter and quick release hubs on ebay, but this was my experience. I decided that day I would never put knock-off garbage on my car. I think life is worth more than $250.

The wheel itself wasn't bad, but after that experience, I couldn't look at it without knowing how cheap chinese knock-off crap it was.

DO NOT BUY A CHEAP STEERING WHEEL!!!! a cheap hub is okay but not the wheel.. you will later find that you will spend more money buying a real quality (MOMO, NRG, SPARCO etc) wheel after you find out how crappy the ebay china ones are.. they bend, dont fit perfect (screws dont go all the way in), they look whack, fake leather fades quick and its just cheap!

but like they say "you get what you pay for"

I have that same wheel.

How about my anodizing turned from black to gold....... Not kidding. I just put it on the car i think last summer and drove the thing twice and parked it for build up/repair.

I went in there one day looking for a pack of smokes (i hide them from myself in my car) and holy alchemy, it was gold.

Those wheels flex about the same as most stock wheels. Honestly, it's to protect YOU from caving your chest in if you are dumb enough to not wear a belt/safety harness.

Save your money. Get a nardi/nrg combo and be happy with it.

I laughed when the miata guy had his wheel come off. He's still PULLING as he's re-attaching his wheel. Gangster. The hubs are made of melted down chinese moped heads. Well, maybe not but they just simply aren't safe. If you get a cheap wheel, ATLEAST get an expensive hub.

We are trying to help you. My ebay hub is getting ditched VERY soon since i need a q/r anyway. My bucket is hard mounted to the floor now.

if you feel like not spending alot, at least pay attention to the quality. Nothing is worse then changing out a stock oem steering wheel for something of lesser quality.

Check out 2nd hand /used steering wheels, alot of good quality ones out there.. get some killler deals on ebay if you play your cards right.

Nardi wheels have been knocked off on ebay now =(

I recommened NRG quick release hubs. Get them about $100 or so. going on 2 years with my slim quick release.

I got a 320mm MOMO corse wheel and a hub adapter for under $100 shipped. Just look around for some deals. The wheel was like $60 used and the hub adapter was $30 or something.

Once you get a good quality hub you also have the benefit of switching to other steering wheels of the same brand if you want some options. 2 friends of mine both with momo hubs switched steering wheels because they were sick of what they had. Now both are happy.
