Howdy folks,

A few weeks ago I had a severely leaking water pump on my S4 black 'vert. I finally took the time to swap it out and discovered that the upper end tank on my factory radiator was split length wise and allowing water to seep out. So, I went and got a replacement factory radiator but while I had the car apart I decided to ditch the stock clutch fan/shroud and go to an electric. The next weekend my wife and I hit the local parts yard for a fan. I'd forgotten to take my tape measure so I was basically taking a guess at what kind of parts yard fan to grab.

I wound up running across a few Mercury Villagers. The fan w/ square shroud looked great so I took a few minutes to remove it off the radiator and take it home. I trimmed the plastic mounting tabs off, shaved 1/4 of the underside plastic off to make it more flush, drilled a few holes for some plastic mounting rods, then w/ some weather stripping I mounted it to the radiator. It was a perfect fit!

It's an 18" fan enclosed in a 23" x 19" shroud which is the exact dimensions of the factory radiator and Koyo radiator cores. With a bit of trimming, it fits snugly in-between the radiator's two factory fan shroud mounting tabs. The fan is also extremely powerful. I'd say it's moreso than the Pontiac Fiero fan I grabbed back in 2001 for my Turbo II. It's also a better fit.

I've got it wired up to switched +12V power (relayed and fused) on its "hi-power" lead so it's on when the key is in the ignition. I'd prefer to use a thermostat but since this car is still stock I'll just stay with this setup for a while. With the A/C on full blast and at its coldest setting, and in traffic, the factory temp gauge will not budge about 1/4 and normally stays around 1/5th the way up. Pretty impressive!

Yep it works! I'm real happy with it! Have already installed another one on a Koyo rad on an FC. Doing one again tonight on a bridgeported T2 w/ a Koyo rad.

on the Koyos did it cover the whole radiator or was there a tiny bit of space to make up like the Taurus fan?

From the one I did several days ago it covered the entire core and about half of both end tanks. The two plastic (well in this case metal) mounting tabs for the factory fan shroud -- the ones in the middle that hold a 10mm nut each -- the top and bottom of the shroud fits snugly inbetween those. Can see it in the attached picture.

we heated that section of the shroud up and pushed it in with a piece of pipe to avoid cutting into it, this way it looks molded

would you recommend this over the fiero fan? i been happy with my fiero fan but that does look pretty clean installed as well. Not crazy about the taurus fans since they appear kind of bulky and have a high start up amp draw.

Recommend over the Fiero fan? In terms of the almost native fitment of the shroud to our rads, yes I would use this over the Fiero one.. The Fiero fan seems fine but I recall not being able to seal it up at the bottom of my T2's radiator. Then again, I haven't taken measurements of it in a million years so I don't know what the shroud's dimensions are. But, for most of us FC guys that still use stock and/or Koyo rads, the Villager/Quest fan seems to fit just damn near perfect. In fact, of the people I've shown the fan install to, they all say it looks stock.

This one I'm fusing at 30A but I've got no idea how much amperage it draws. It's own wiring from the factory is 12AWG so I figure it's at least 20A.

While I'm thinkin' about it Hyperterk, I still run the old S4 alternator on my black vert. I've never changed it. With the fan on, using the factory gauge of course, it still shows in the 12V's when idling and driving around. One thing I did do however to prevent an over-saturation of the electrical system (with radio and lights on, etc) was kick the idle up to about 1000rpm.

hmm ill have to snag one of these for my 89 TII, its pretty hard to find a fiero in the junkyard around here, should be easier to find one of these....

Looks good Brian. I am currently using a Ford Mark VIII fan-it is also 18". My fan is a Series II which means the car had a PWM controller and only one speed-HIGH! I miss my 2-speed Taurus action. This might be a good alternative, but what I really need to do is go PWM.

One question: Why does everyone leave the mounting fan studs in the waterpump pulley when they go Efan? I pulled mine out and it looks much cleaner.

There's three wires, all 12awg - Black, Blue/White, and Blue/Red. Black is ground, Blue/White is low speed, and Blue/Red is high speed.
