oil pressure too high?

I realize my oil pressure is running quite a bit higher than before some modifications including lines and oil filter relocation at a shop.

My idle is around 60 psi at 1000rpm, and by 3000rpm, it goes to 110-130 psi. Is this about normal? My sensor is right before the oil filter.filter is brand new.

Worried that either the line is misassembled or someone put too much goop at the pedestal.

FD oil pump and AN-10 lines all around.

I blocked off oil passage into the front cover by completely blocking off the hole from the front iron going to the front housing (black arrow on the attached picture). that's pretty much the only oil mod I made.

is this expected oil pressure with FD pump?

the pump doesn't control the pressure, the oil pressure regulator does. besides that the FD and 20B use the same oil pump

I understand that. I have normal FD regulator and OEM FD pump.. are my pressure readings too high in your experience?

thanks for your reply.

just wanted to make sure I understand you correctly.

so with FD oil pump and FD regulator, it's expected for oil pressure to reach 60psi at 1000rpm idle and 130-140psi with rev to 3000-4000rpm?

I'm using amsoil 20/50 oil.

thank you.

the 20B and FD both use the same oil pump, NF01-14-100. or if you like the FD uses the 20B oil pump.

secondly the FD oil pressure regulator is set to 8 bar, or 110psi. they don't list a spec for when that happens, but 60psi, at or off idle is about right. i'd expect 110psi by 3000rpm.

excellent, thank you.

I haven't driven the car in 2 days for this concern. I am going to go and burn some more rubber!

I have seen numerous aftermarket 100psi oil pressure gauge that have broken internally from the oil pressure on the FD. The high pressure is also the reason the factory sending unit dies so frequently. It is normal, I would be concerned if it were lower.

looked at mine last night, at startup on 10w-40,

90psi @ 1100rpm

after warm-up

40psi @ 950rpm
60-70psi @ 3k rpms
80-90psi @ 5-7k

All free rev

I don't have knowledge on the subject, but it appears the 20w-50 had much higher pressure at startup and/or the sending unit it worn

again don't quote me on this:

FSM says anything over 50psi is normal at 3k rpms...

I'm not sure how your oil pressure is so high that does seem a bit unusual, but it is definitely not low lol
