Ok, no updates for ages...Life's busy. But progress is getting made and I'm inching closer to getting the motor fired up.
Most things are buttoned up now, just a few small jobs before fluids and small amount of wiring.
As they say the last 10% takes 90% of the time...but I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel
A few photos (sorry for the quality) of where I'm at..
Fuel lines finished and a few others things you cannot really see.
Ignition leads done.
Another angle.
Gauges, in the DIN slot...who needs a radio right??

Well it been an exciting few weeks, I got the car fired up a few weeks back which was great. Nothing like hearing a motor that you have built yourself come to life!!
Had a small issue with the wastegate, which was resolved but it did put me back a few weeks. But all is good now.
Anyway,
Last week I took it to Bill Nabhan an Aussie tuning master (MazSport) for the run in tune. He worked his magic and the motor's running perfect. We ran into issues with the exhaust being way to restrictive .
I had retained the exhaust from the last 13BT set up I had, which after the 3.5" dump reduces to 3" pipe, followed by a cat, resonator then muffler...a choker for sure, and the GT-42 didn't see more than 2psi...
What we did was enough for what I need for run in purposes and I'll be up grading the exhaust very soon.
Another thing that caught me out was the Mircotec tacho signal and the factory tacho, basically the tacho is set for a 4cyl and the micro is set for a 6cyl. So I've ordered a Dakota Digital signal interface, this will fix my issue of the tacho reading double.
So what is a S3 Rx7 with a extend port 20BT like to drive?
Farking sweet!!!! I'll has so much torque it's insane, you don't even need to touch the accelerator and it's flying...any gear too. All this a no boost yet :shock:
I love the sound too, even though it's very muffled atm, cannot wait to bolt up a decent free flowing exhaust and unleash the 20B bark!

Picked up these awesome bits from AES

this is so sick.
its one thing to have a 20b 1st gen, but it's another when you clearly see the extra effort put into this build. good work mate, get that exhaust fixxed, i don't think you want any less than 4"

Time for up dates, as it's been some time...
Finally finished the exhaust system, sounds great and flows perfectly.
All bolted up.
Did a few run in trips down the Australian NSW south coast through the twistie roads of the National Park...
Up on the rollers getting tuned...
Very happy with the result
Looking at the graph you can see it wouldn't hold boost levels even at 15psi, if it did hold boost steadily then I would have seen a bit more power...
Time to do away with my cheap adjustable boost valve and buy an eboost..

Entered the car in the Snowy Mountains 1000 last weekend. Similar idea to the Texas Mile but a shorter distance. It's a 1km sprint from a standing start, held at a out of town airport.
Trailered down.
I was aiming to get the car sorted for it, only had it tuned a week prior.
It was a good shake down to see where the car was at.
At the start line..
Car ran hard, no vibrations...just nice and smooth.
Had trouble going into 4th gear, which cost me a heap of speeed I'm sure.
Top speed of 256 kmph.
Only had one decent run, as the gearbox is toast. I'm happy with the balance the car has.
My speed was 17th fastest out of 100 odd entrants, not bad being rear wheel drive and a 30 y.o chassis.
Got something to work towards now Gota beat me some Supras & GTR's...

It's been an age since any updates... The 20B still blows my mine every time I drive it...so much torque!
I've just taken the car off the road to do a few updates...
I picked up a supra R154 gearbox, bought a neat Toyota to Mazda adapter made by 'Plazaman' which enables me to keep the push clutch set up.
Started work on a fan shroud to maxmise the efficiency of the fan.
Picked up an eboost2, which will cure boost issues I had with the tee-valve.
Looking forward to getting all these working and in the car. Also working on a new sump, with a thicker plate and looking an aquamist WI setup.

Well I've been chipping away with a few bits to get the car back on the road.
The engine crossmember has been modified again, cut and shut making it lower to allow greater clearance for the thicker sump plate.
I dropped the Engine/Supra r154 gearbox into the car to check the gearbox/tunnel clearance. The stock gearbox mounts fouled, so they were removed and the box fits
The shifter location came up short by about 40mm..
Not to much of an issue, the shifter extension is easily removed and modified..
First off was to cut the extension housing, the 40mm plates were tacked on to check everything cleared. The lower plate in the below picture was lowed another 4mm.
All shut up and shifting well.

Next on the list is to finish the gearbox crossmember and make up the sump with the thicker plate.

Making some good progress...
The clutch plates have been re-splined to suit the Supra box.
Also a brass bearing to replace the factory spigot bearing, is ready to rock!
I picked up this top notch sump plate from Xtreme Rotaries, it's 10mm thick and o-ringed too.
Currently making up a new and improved sump. Plan is to use studs instead of bolts (greater securing torque) to aid the rigidity of the block.
Gearbox crossmember is nearly finished...
Light at the end of the tunnel again
