wiper wiring

I am adding a windshield wiper to my race car since the race this weekend is calling for 70% chance of rain. I have studied the wiring diagrams and by running power to the solid blue wire, and ground to the blue and white wire I can get the wiper to work, but when you turn them off they stop wherever they are, they don’t go to the home positon. I tried also hooking the black wire up to ground but it worked the same. Is there a combination of wires that I can connect to get the wiper to work and go to the home position when you turn the power off?

Do you have the CPU installed and working correctly?

You need the CPU to control the wiper timer. If you dont want to do this you can just get an aftermarket timer, but the CPU would be the cheapest option. Ill take a snip of my schematic for my car. i redid the wiring on my race car as well.

I have almost no wiring left, I worked hard to get it down to the bare minimum where the 13B would still run correctly. I am fine with one speed on/off wipers, I would just like to get them to go to the park positon when I turn them off. It’s not the end of the world if it won’t work out but it would be nice.

You can't get them to the park position without the CPU. It's very simple wiring from the CPU. All you need is a single wire, I believe it's an orange one that goes to the wipers. I forgot to post my schematic last night. I'll do it today when I get home.

You can get them to park without the cpu. I have done it. I am out of the country and do not have the wiring diagram with me. If you look on line about how windshield wipers work, you should be able to figure out how to apply that to the RX7 wiring. MHR650, you are pretty creative, so I have confidence you can get it figured out.

If you can't get it setup in time just have your drivers practice flipping the switch when the wipers are down! It is not so hard, if you can do it on a long straight.

Check this link.

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...ectly-1034664/

Or if the link doesn't work search on the forum for "wiper parking". It shows up on the second page, I think.

It helps explain how the parking works in the 1st gen RX7 and should help you figure out who to wire it up.

Here is how I wired mine up when I did my harness. Don't pay attention to the numbers, that's how I numbered my connectors. The letters are not all accurate to the original wire color since I could not use all the original colors. You will need the fsm to figure out the original colors.

I hate when one of these threads is left without the final solution. It is possible to get the wipers to work and go back to the park position with just a single toggle switch, but it is a little more complicated than you may think. The key thing to understand when working on the Mazda wiper system is that all of the switching is done with grounds, power is applied the motor all the time. You need 3 wires to make everything happen, full time +12V, full time ground, and switched ground. You run the 12v wire to the solid blue wire on the wiper motor and one side of the coil of the relay, either 85 or 86 doesn’t matter. Full time ground goes to the black wire attached to the case of the motor. Switched ground is what controls the motor, in my system you can only have one speed either high or low, blue and white is low speed, blue and red is high speed. I have the switched ground wire connected to the blue and red wire so when I turn the switch on the wipers run at high speed, I also have the switched ground connected to the other side of the coil of the relay, either 85 or 86 doesn’t matter, so when I turn on the switch it will trigger the relay. The park function is controlled by the switch mounted to the gear and the blue and black wire. I have the blue and black wire from the switch on the wiper motor connected to pin 30 on the relay, and the blue and white low speed wire connected to pin 87a which is the normally closed terminal of the relay.

In operation when you turn on the wiper switch you apply ground to the high speed windings of the wiper motor and the coil of the relay, this activates the relay and turns the wiper motor on to the high speed setting. When you turn the switch off it removes ground from the high speed windings in the wiper motor and turns off the relay which applies ground to the low speed windings through the normally closed contact in the relay and the switch mounted on the wiper motor gear, once the wipers have returned to the park position the switch on the gear opens and removes the ground so the wipers stop.

I could have just left it so that when you turned the wipers off they stopped and left it to the driver to get the wiper in a decent stopped position, but I got to the point where I wasn’t going to let something as simple as windshield wipers beat me….

Just stumbled across this thread. I'm simplifying the wiring as much as possible on my drift car by going to a GM style American Autowire harness and using Joe's racing switch panels to replace all the stock switches. I was wondering how I was going to get the wipers to "park". Thank you so much for posting this!!
