Unhappy Whining noise on start up

Hi guys, just bought an FB, started it up and there is a whining noise coming from behind me, I'm thinking its electrical as the noise gets quieter when I lower the windows or use anything electrical. Any ideas?

whining sound

Can you be more specific where the sound is coming from? Inside the car behind the driver seat, or underneath the car behind the driver seat? If under the car, check your fuel pump. If inside your car, pull out the cargo spot and check your cars computer. Hope this helps

The ECU is located in the passenger footwell area under the carpet and kind of against the firewall - is that where the sound is coming from?

The only thing I can think of behind the driver is the cruise control modulator (inside the bin) and behind that and underneath the car is the fuel pump. Whining would be a strange noise to come from a fuel pump, though.

Or... and this is a longshot... turn your stereo off.

My bet is on the fuel pump.

I texted the previous owner, he said it's the racing fuel pump he put in. I don't think it's the ECU because it's coming from behind the drivers seat, around the middle of the car. Couldn't be the stereo, there isn't one.

Its probably a rotary vane fuel pump. Extremely robust, but equally loud.

They are a common (cheap) performance pump for our cars.
