One eensy 12A turbocharging question

Okay, I have been a good boy and read up on stuff, I have a couple people with 12A turbo manifolds and turbos from Japan (because apparently there was a JDM 12AT), and I have most of the other stuff I need either set up or figured out.

THE ONLY THING that is stumping me about turbocharging a 12A is this thing I have read about on write-ups and such that involves hollowing out something in your carburetor? I have pretty limited experience with carburetors, I know it's not rocket science or anything, but most of the cars I have ever done custom work to have been forgiving and fuel injected. I feel like if I learn to tune a carb properly it will be a useful ability to have, since I will no longer have to go to a shop to have my ecu tuned or whatever, but this one thing is pretty much all that is holding me back from starting my 12A turbo project, and I hope it's pretty clear that I HAVE searched. If anyone can give me some advice about this carb modification, or make me feel stupid and link me to another thread I missed that pretty much has the direct answer to my question, then please do. Thanks a lot in advance.

If you don't have much experience with carbs there's quite a bit to learn before you can start to look at modifying it for turbo... Check out www.sterlingmetalworks.com and also go through the carby manual which is on his links page, and get hold of a spare and pull it apart to see where the theory matches up to the real thing..

That's assuming you want to use the standard Nikki carb?

Good on you for giving it a go, just be prepared for a fair bit of research!

bad83, that sounds fantastic. Though I am all about learning the low-down on carburetors in general, afaic I want to get this show on the road. If you want, PM me some details about what you'd charge with my carb supplied and we'll lock it in. Thanks for the responses.
