TII swap couple questions

I have read so much and searched so much on the subject, like hours upon hours of material. I'm ready for my 1st TII swap, and its in an FB haha.

Anyway I have a few questions.

1. I want to use an s4 TII front cover, because it has provisions for the 2nd gen oil cooler. (Car already has 2nd gen oil cooler installed). Obviously I'd have to modify the TII front cover to mount from the front. Worth it? Yes? No?

2. Whats the easiest way to put the TII tranny in the car? 12a tailshaft? Or shorten shifter housing? I'm thinkin 12a tailshaft and use the stock transmission mount if possible. And what to do with driveshaft for either? TII yoke on FB shaft? Or full custom?

Basically I'm gonna get the car running in stock TII form and build upon that. Going to remove emissions, s5 Turbo/manifold.

I'm just looking for input from experienced members, what have you done and what would you do the next time? This definitely wont be my last, i'm more than capable of doing the swap, I'm a Licensed Technician so the knowledge is there..but the welding and fabrication skills are not.

Oh and I already have: s4 TII longblock, ECU, Harness, NA Harness.
I just bought s5 turbo, manifold, 550cc injectors, intercooler, TII boost sensor and VAF.

1. you can still use the fc fmoc with an s3 front cover,

2. I don't think swapping the tail shaft housing works on a turbo trany,

3 if you have a s3 drive shaft just change the front yoke, unless you have extra money you just need to spend

Using a GSL-SE front cover makes for the easiest S4 TII swap....everything will bolt right up.The oil metering pump is the issue, not the oil cooler.

TII trans is an easy swap. Just remove the tail housing, remove the shift shaft and cut off 1", then redrill the hole in the shaft 1" forward. Also, youll need to cut 1" off the shift shaft tube. Install the shift shaft and tailhousing, then install the shortened tube and a 1st gen shifter box. The 1st gn trans mount can be used with some grinding, shaping and some 1" spacers to drop the x-member down a little.Driveshaft will have to be custom made, not an issue for any competant driveline shop.

I did the S4 TII swap back in 01' and it worked quite well.Passed smog in CA and made fair power up to about 12psi, not bad for a junkyard engine. A year later I upped the ante to a Mazdatrix built, streetported S5 engine with a TO4B hybrid. That setup is also CA smog legal and makes about 350HP,still running strong today with about 60K miles on it.

^What he said, although it's actually 30mm that the hole in the shift rod needs to move forward which is closer to 1.25"
The S4 T2 trans (or at least the tail shaft housing) is the easier one to use as it has a flat spot for the mount like an FB. Much less custom work, the S5 trans use a different style mount and it's a bit more work to install in our cars. Either one is not very difficult though.

Awesome, so I'll get an SE front cover and oil pan. I'll probably just block offf the mop and run premix.

Shift rod modification sounds fairly easy to do so I'll do that. And I'll have to get an s4 tII trans. I was gonna buy an s5 but if it's easier I'll just get an s4.

Thanks a lot for the help guys I know now what else I need to get. Build thread will be up soon!

What would be the issue with the oil metering pump...? S4 omp should bolt up fine to SE front cover.
