Side mount alternator and rack n pinion

Just a FYI for any one wondering, Atkins rotary side mount alternator bracket does not fit when you have a respeed rack and pinion. The steering linkage is in the way, I am working on a adapter to mount it about 2" higher but I know I will have some belt clearance issues, I will post some pictures when I'm done.

Your dizzy may hit the belts. I ran a side mount and my belts barely cleared.

yeah definitely will hit the rear belt, I have a duel belt setup and I was thinking I might just run the front belt, or I fab a idler pulley to push the belts down... Not sure yet but unfortunately I have to side mount the alternator, I already took up the space on top of my motor with a water to air inter cooler.

Some folks have side mounted on the passenger side by reusing the air pump brackets with
some fabrication. Of course if you have an intercooler that side may be tight as well with a turbo.

So I forgot to take pictures before I mounted it but here are some finished pictures for any one that decides they must sidemount when they have a respeed rack and pinion. I used 1/2 plate steel and used it to move the mounting point about 2" so the entire bracket is higher, I was able to use all but one of the mounting holes on the atkins bracket. Unfortunately I can not use the duel pulley, I will only be able to put a belt on the outer pulley for now because the inner one hits the CAS, I will update if I find a solution to this problem.

Long story short is if you have a Respeed rack and you do not need to side mount the alternator dont bother its not worth the hastle, if you do need the space on top of the engine it can be done.
