How does the RE dual carb run? You can always have a good welder make the hat for you.

Weber 48 DCOE is probably the best. The IDA is a better carb for N/A, it flows nicer. But when you use a turbo, it forces the air through either way so the slightly better flow of the IDA isn't worth the cost difference.

I havn't heard much about the holley, but I think it drives smoother and gives you a bit better mileage than the weber, but doesn't make as much top end power.

The nikki is probably the worst on gas out of the 3, but it drives smooth and gives good power. It should also be easy to tune, the only difficult thing is getting rid of a small bog when you suddenly floor the pedal.

So, the nikki is cheapest by a couple hundred $. The weber is $550 for the 45dcoe(best for stockport) and $675 for the 48dcoe(best for streetport) from rotaryshack. And the holley is about $800 from racingbeat. Decide for yourself which one suits you best.

the chokes probablly just need to be enlarged by 1mm each to get more top end..

or if you want to keep good low and midrange, just enlarge the chokes on the secondaries.

Just found out a bit more about using a weber 48ida for blow thru, IT DOESN'T WORK. Well, it kinda does, but the floats are hollow and will get crushed after a couple minutes, and if you try to fill them to make them solid, they no longer work right and it'll run like complete ****. If you want a weber for blow thru, stick with the DCO.

What are you filling them with coldy? I've seen IDA's work fine, although i would prefer the dco anyway.

You need to change to the plastic floats if it isn't already.

The floats on my WEber 45 dcoe are the new-style plastic hollow floats. Is this going to be a problem for use on a blow-through setup? I just rebuilt the carb, so I have a better understanding of how it works, but are the brass floats such that they will fit right up to newer dcoe's?

Well, today I made 370+ to the rear wheels on my FB running a Holley Blow Through, if you wanted some other input.

Will the brass floats in a 48 IDA be able to handle 6 lbs before getting crushed? Also is Robert at rotaryshack on vacation? I have pm'ed and called but no answers.

wait wait... so the RX-2 nikki carb. i have right now actually consumes more fuel than the 48 DCOE and IDA carb. setups? While the holley reigns top on gas mileage? How come the nikki would consume more fuel?

Well, my blowthrough nikki is getting 8mpg right now, and I know people with webers are getting 10-15mpg. I'm really not sure why though. I'll be switching to a Weber 48 DCO-SP soon, so I'll be able to compare the two first-hand.

I found that out from Robert. He tired to use the IDA, but the floats would always get crushed. So he filled them with an expandable foam to make them solid, but doing that changed their bouyancy(sp?) so it ran like ****.

A modified Nikki will be the most tunable out of all of them.

it runs shitty on low RPM due to not having enough progression hole. You have to remember that the IDA's are designed for full racing only. but to make it streetable, VW guys will add 1 more hole for better transition. Yes, the brass float needs to be filled in with expandable foam.

When Im ready to do the blow thru conversion, I will play with the IDA. Depending on what JC enterprises recommend, I might end up with 4 progression holes since they have done turbo VW with IDA. Plus, I have one more idea to add-in for fuel enrichment. Also, there is another crew here in LA who are currently experiementing with IDA. Got to learn from their mistakes....including my own.
