Please help.Should i buy or not?
Hi Guys.
So i`am sitting with a problem (kind off a nice problem).
I have always wanted a FD3S,ever since they came out I have always wanted one.
The FD3S was never officially imported into RSA, very few made it here, perhaps 20 or so.
3 months ago, I met a guy that has 2 of them. One Rotary, and one V8 powered. We talked a bit, and I had to help with some diagnostics on the Rotary one.
He had both of them imported from Japan. In RSA we are not allowed to import second hand cars at all.He imported his, and had the paperwork Jippoed so that he could get a licence plate, and the rest of the papwerwork. He is currently driving it around on RSA roads. So far he has not had any problems. As i recall he has has them for about 1 year
I have been saving for some months to get a FD3S.Put as much money away as I could, to one day import one like he did.I have about enough money now to have one ordered, and delivered.
I`am looking for one with a dead engine,to save some money on the purchase price.I can rebuilt it no problem!
If I were to get it here, and have it registered. All should be fine. Now if the government finds out about it….
1.They will come to my house, take the car and squash it for scrap metal. They don’t ask questions, and just squash it.
2.I might get a (nother) criminal record for being in possession of a illegally imported car
So what do I do? What would you do in my shoes?Help a Rotary pell out please.

I agree w/ Jamie. It sucks, but I know that I would hate spending that money on something that you've always wanted and possibly have it destroyed (plus criminal record). So could you have imported one from Japan when they were new (before '02)? If so, too bad you couldn't have bought one then.
You could always move to the US, Europe, or Japan sometime later in your life and get a legal FD.

i would definatly not waste your hard earned money on a gamble. i know you probably do not want to move but thats always an option. i would however see if there's any clauses in your country's importation paperwork. see if there's any possibility of a waiver.
